Laparoscopic appendectomy is a minimally invasive procedure to remove the appendix from the body using small incisions rather than one long incision, as in the traditional process. The appendix is a tiny organ shaped like a small tube that is attached to the beginning of the large intestine. An inflammation of the appendix may need removal. An inflamed appendix is called appendicitis, and rupturing or bursting of an inflamed appendix can cause severe medical complications.
During the procedure, general anesthesia is administered and the first incision is usually close to the belly button to insert the camera and to fill the space with gas for better picture followed by which 2 more small incisions are made and the procedure is completed.
